So, here we are, eleven down and, as far as "Generations" goes, none to go. And what have we learned? Have we learned anything? Do we even care? What am I even talking about anymore? You know what, I don't even think I know anymore...

follow me for the last one of these for what will probably prove to be a long, long time... )
So what will I do with this place now? It can't all be quizzes and Plumbing Woes. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that soon enough, this general area will be filled with more talk of The Wire and Lost than most people even reading this will care for. (Sadly, neither of them lend themselves to ridiculous cartoon pictures. This will leave a definite hole in my posting routine) I just know I need something here, or otherwise it will stagnate, and end up like the other one. Of course I have considered migrating back over there, you know.. using my alloted LJ time less on words and more on pictures. I don't know, it could go either way. I have at least one more Heroes-related wordy type thing, and something else to start on that I am already about four days late on... but other than that, I guess I will just have to play it by ear.
hey, how's it going?
So last night was the first in which I tried the New Heroes Plan which is, I waited until it was over and then talked to the Real Life friends to see if it was worth watching. I figured they'd be the best place to turn, as they know what I like and are not swayed by dudes with no shirts on and other such things that people get overly excited about.  It looks like  they have finally grown into their Heroes-related usefulness!

The one who I was talking to as it aired gave it an "It has too much Claire BS in this one too. It sucks... the whole romance thing. It's almost not watchable just for that. It ended with the start of the Hiro/Peter throwdown, so I think it’s leading up to a killer one next week. I mean, in and of itself, yeah it pretty much sucks, but I think it still needs to be seen, just for next week's to be better." The one who introduced me to it said, "Get it and be mad. They focus on Claire and Monica, but the story of Adam and Sylar saves it, sorta. I'm 'bout done with Peter. I know you have to have a quota of naive heroes, but damn." Not exactly four-star reviews, right? But I got it anyway (after way too many hours) and watched. I figured that, if nothing else, it had to be better than last week. Was I right?

Here is a hint, in the form of the email I sent to the first friend immediately after watching the episode:  "Wait, was this part of some nefarious plan to get back at me for something I did long, long ago? Because man... if so, bravo! No really, brav-o! I am not sure where it went wrong, or if I am just such a hater now that it all seems bad, but was there any good dialogue in that episode? No, really. It was like Community Theater or something. You know, it seems I got the short end of the stick in the whole Heroes/Lost tradeoff." Right after that, he got one from his brother that simply said “What is this mess you have me watching?” Maybe my sister is smarter than I give her credit for.

fail, do I look amused?, that doesn't even make sense!, not amused
To save you the trouble of wading through what will undoubtedly be an incredibly unpleasant recap, I will just get the main point out of the way first: I hated this episode. From start  to finish. From 9 to 10. From "next week on 'Chuck'" to "Previously on 'Journeyman'". There were two minutes I actually got excited about, two... and the rest of the show I spent staring at the television with a mix of anger disbelief. I actually missed an entire scene, because I left the room to go do something else. I have never left the room during Heroes. To put it mildly, "Company Man" has finally got some real competition. When it was over, I turned to my friend and said "You better be glad you got me to watch this during season one, because if I would have come in during this season I would have been mad at you for trying to make me watch garbage."

Before it aired I had already written my intro to this and then, after I watched the episode I realized it was worthless, because everything I had praised in it was glaringly absent from this week's offering. And I don't just mean character-wise, I mean "things I like about the show, in general" wise. This was just not a good week for me and Heroes.

This one was rough, but the next one... it will be much better. You know why? No "Heroes"!
and then?, ::shifty eyes::, wait. what?, intrigued, nosy
So I guess this is the part where I rant about the promo that clearly said "What happened to Sylar?" and then proceeded to show me nothing at all relating to what happened to Sylar? Is that right? Okay. So, why show it if you're not even gonna mention it, promo people?! And that is all of the righteous anger I can work up over that. I don't know... maybe I will have more on that later. ::shrug:: In the meantime, I have more pressing issues to rant about. (note: these things include neither DL's Death nor the Twins' storyline.) And this was an episode that, two viewings in, was okay. It was not great, and nowhere near what I was expecting when I heard “there will be an episode that explains everything that happened in the immediate aftermath of the explosion” but I guess it could have been worse.

This week I am trying something different. In my effort to go to bed a more decent hour, I have taken to doing things away from the computer that I normally do at the computer... like, things that I could do away from the computer. So, I wrote a lot of this one on paper. But it was 4am, so things got a bit shaky at points. I tend to write differently on paper than I do at the keyboard, so it became less "Heroes recap" and more "mini-essays on Heroes characters". This required editing. This also means that, even thought only about eight characters got any real screentime, this is still extra long. So maybe on-paper is not the best option for this particular endeavor. What? Get on with it, you say. Alrighty then...

So I’m watching Four Months Later, and all of those new clips, from the very start of the show, have already aired. It was interesting to go back and look at them, knowing what they now represent. And to think, I was all “Oh man! Did you see HRG smacking Linderman around? That was crazy!”
good one!, tk fingers, oh snap!, excellent
Okay, so my previously mentioned cable woes prevented me from participating in the regularly-scheduled "Shut up! Heroes!" 9pm viewing. Instead I was forced to harness the power of the internet (a day early) to hold the first ever 3AM "No commercials? No problem!" Heroes viewing. It worked out pretty well, except of the smaller screen size and the six hour delay. This is also the first week I experimented with writing the review out on paper first... by the time I got two pages in, I realized that this may lead to even more wordiness than usual. And then I got sleepy, so it's back to the old style! Let's just wing it and see how it goes!

This may be my favorite episode of the season thus far. And if it is not, it is at least tied with "The Line" for the top spot. This is a promising trend! Now, if only we could be guaranteed the back end of the season!

good one!, tk fingers, oh snap!, excellent
Okay, so last week I was a super-hater. I mean, outside of that Nightmare sequence, there was nothing in that episode that stood out as something I'd remember down the line. Like, as I type this, I don't remember one other thing that happened outside of the Peterelli-Parkman adventure. That is not a good sign for that episode. But things are back on track this week, as things happened that I cared about. Things that were interesting! Things that I will have watched again at least once before the night is over!
As much as i hated last week's episode, I was all over this one. It was heavy on things I loved, and light on things I don't. And even the things I normally hate did not bother me as much this week. Is this a result of my lowered expectations after last week's crapfest? Possibly. But I'd like to think that most of it was because the episode was just that good.

hey, how's it going?
This was episode five right? I am not even sure.. they are all starting to blur together. I don't think matters are being helped by the fact that none of the stories are really intersecting. I know it's all about trying to pull in new viewers, so things have to be introduced slowly.. but what about the old viewers? Don't we deserve something too? Each episode is like five separate shows within one hour, and the connections are tenuous, at best. There are only six more episodes in this first "pod" before the December hiatus, so all I am asking for is a little connectivity between storylines. The Virus, The Elder Heroes, Something Else... one of these needs to step it up to be the Big Thing everyone is focused on. Because the way things are going, Heroes is in danger of becoming one of those shows that I look back on and go "Man, remember when it was good?!" Though, I will give it this much.. from the US/Canadian previews, next week looks excellent. But, I have been known to be duped by promo editing before, so I take that with a grain of salt.

hey, how's it going?
So, here is the post where I ramble on about "The Kindness of Strangers." How well did that kindness work out? It depends on who you ask. Ask Sylar.. it worked out well. Ask random Derek from Jersey... not so much. This episode featured not one second of two-thirds of what I like to call "Oh My God! You Again!?!" No Peter AND no Hiro! Sign me up for more of those! The only thing better? No Claire! If this could be made to happen I would.. well, I don't know what I would do, but it would involve smiling a lot and perhaps a random "Oh yeah!" fist pump or two.

Man, I have been working on this for like 20 hours. I think I am just going to call it a wrap now. I know I am probably forgetting some things, but it was a big week for my two favorite characters, so I got a bit more long-winded in some sections that usual. That's right.. I am going to talk, at length, about beards, hair, clothing and the epic Battle for Sylar Supremacy! There is a new contender in the mix. ! You have been warned. And I may possibly call West creepy and make jokes at Parkman's expense, but I will not make any guarantees!
hey, how's it going?
Today's title refers to the recent rash of Warnings in the TWoP Heroes Meet Market, wherein it has become taboo to actually talk about Heroes in the Meet Market that bears its name. It is both hilarious and stupid, making it one of my favorite things ever.

So, three weeks in and things are... not really any further along than when we started? This was the first week where I really started to feel the whole "This cast is too big and it's killing me!" thing I often find myself feeling over on Craphole Island. I mean, when I am aching to get back to a Niki story? Something's not right. If we are going to start leaving characters totally out of episodes, I know just who we should start with. I'll give you a hint... it rhymes with Blaire Cutler. Of course there at least three more new characters who have yet to even make a real appearance, so I guess I should get used to it. But that does not mean I have to like it!

and then?, ::shifty eyes::, wait. what?, intrigued, nosy
I was just working on a post for the Sylar thread and, while I was typing a random thought hit me. And since I am working on being spoiler-free, and wont, no can't, umm am trying not to go into the Spoilers and Speculation thread, I had to discuss this somewhere. So here I am.
This may all just be conjecture. Either way... spoilers! )

Episode 2: "Lizards" Same as last week, only less wordy.
I was not as into this week's episode as I was last week's. That may partly be attributed to the fact that last week was the Finally! Season premier, and this week was not. Plus it focused too much on things I wasn't really that invested it. It picked up more in the second half, so it was not a total bust. Maybe I need to watch it again. Yes, I think that is what I will do.

Super late thoughts on Four Months Later. Or, "Four Months Later" five days later.

Every time I see another one of these on someone else's LJ, I go "Hey, weren't you going to do that too?" and then proceed to actually not do it. I watched the show Monday, on the edge of my seat. I watched about 3/4 with the Commentary a few days ago, but had to stop to watch the Thursday night sitcoms, and don't know if it is possible to FF to the part where I cut off. Luckily for those who do not leave the house on Saturday nights, NBC is airing a replay. So now, may days late, here are my thoughts on both the season opener -- including the characters, the storylines and what kinds of things I hope (and don't hope) go down in the remainder of the season. Be warned, if you have not seen the episode, there are spoilers here.  And if you have seen it, there are a few instances of rampant speculation and baseless wishes relating to future events. Also, words, lots and lots of words.
